What Is a Wart?

A wart is a small lump that develops on the skin of the hands and feet. Plantar warts typically grow on the balls and heels of the feet, as those areas bear the most pressure. Foot warts can also grow inward, underneath a callus. Plantar warts are caused by a virus called HPV, or human papillomavirus. The virus enters through a cut in the skin, causing an infection. The warts may not appear for weeks or months after the infection. Still, the infection can spread via communal or home showers, swimming pools, athletic and sports facilities, beaches and boardwalks, or any other environment where people commonly walk barefoot. Our team of doctors and specialists can evaluate your warts and determine the best method for wart removal.

Recognizing Plantar Warts

The most common symptoms of plantar warts on the feet include:

●        Small, rough growths on the bottom of the foot.

●        A hard callus over a spot on the skin where the wart has grown inward.

●        Black pinpoints on the skin of the foot.

●        A cluster of growths on the soles of the feet.

●        A growth or raised area that interrupts the normal ridges in the skin of your foot.

●        Growths that cause foot pain or tenderness.

Can You Prevent Plantar Warts?

You can prevent plantar warts by not walking barefoot in public areas, especially if you have any cuts, abrasions, or irritations on your feet that could allow HPV to enter. You are at a higher risk of plantar warts if you are a child or teenager, have an autoimmune disease or weakened immune system, are 65 or older, and are Caucasian. You can reduce your risk of plantar warts if you:

● Avoid touching your plantar warts or anyone else’s plantar warts.

● Thoroughly clean your feet after going barefoot.

● Thoroughly dry your feet and toes after bathing or swimming.

● Don’t share personal hygiene items with others, including nail clippers, shoes, socks, washcloths, and towels.

● Wear sandals or shower shoes in public showers, locker rooms, steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs, and athletic facilities.

What Is Swift® Plantar Wart Treatment?

Swift® plantar wart treatment is an innovative new method of plantar wart removal and treatment. The treatment is administered using a small, handheld instrument that directs low levels of microwaves to each Plantar wart. This microwave energy is safe, minimally invasive, and less destructive than freezing warts or using salicylic acid or surgery for wart removal. The heat from the microwave wart treatment stimulates the body's natural healing processes, so it detects and attacks the HPV virus causing the warts. We may recommend that you undergo three or four visits for the best results, but each Swift® wart treatment only lasts 5-10

Benefits of Swift® Microwave Wart Treatment

Swift® microwave wart treatment is far less invasive than other methods of wart removal. Because it is less invasive, there are fewer risks of complications or side effects. Swift® microwave therapy works quickly, only requiring a few treatment sessions. Microwave wart treatment is also virtually painless and is less uncomfortable than other wart removal options. When we use Swift® microwave wart treatment, we have more control over the treatment area, and we don’t need to break the skin or destroy tissue.
